Turkish midfielder Okan Buruk has warned England that his side are
full of confidence ahead of their Euro 2004 Group Seven qualifier at
Sunderland's Stadium of Light next Wednesday.
"I feel ready. We (Turkey) are in great form right now," the Inter
Milan player said on the club's official website on Tuesday.
"Besides, a prestigious setting like the one in England -- the home
of football -- will motivate us to play at our best," he added.
Turkey currently leads the qualifying group on nine points after
comfortably beating Slovakia, Macedonia and Liechtenstein in the first
three matches.
England, meanwhile, has a game in hand, but lie a distant second after
a labored 2-2 draw with Macedonia.
Sven-Goran Eriksson's side desperately need two victories from their
next two qualifiers, against Leichtenstein and Turkey, to haul themselves
back into contention for the automatic qualification spot.
But Okan believes Turkey is capable of beating England in their own
backyard.
"After our historic showing at the World Cup in Korea and Japan (where
Turkey finished third), we're aiming to give our supporters another
great display," he said.
