JMG enjoyed this surface!
After terrible clay and grass court season,
he came home from Europe, where he advanced only twice in 8 matches,
and relaxed himself in order to recharge.
Gambill dominant former champion Enqvist all the match,
serve well, hit the ball well,
It seems that we can expect some of JMG's best tennis
in the following US summer hardcourt season.

Andy Roddick, the top seed, also advanced,
but in a much tougher 2-hr match
he didnt have his rythem in the match
but still improved his record to 36-12 this season!
