http://www.standard.net/standard/79861 Ostertag was hardly an 'inconsistent player' Friday, May 5, 2006 So, Greg Ostertag has decided to retire. Some fans will no doubt say good riddance. He was inconsistent, to say the least. However, some facts about his career with the Utah Jazz should be noted. Coach Jerry Sloan admitted at the start of the season that he missed having a big man at center. Last season, when Ostertag played for Sacramento, the Jazz had their first losing season in several years. Yes, the Jazz had more injuries last year than this year, and the Jazz didn't have rookie Deron Williams last year. However, Sacramento had a winning season and lost to Seattle in the first round of the playoffs during the 2004-05 season. This season, the Jazz ended at 41-41. To recap, then, that's 10 for 11 winning seasons in the NBA for Greg. For those same 10 seasons the team Greg played for made it to the playoffs. His final season the team he played for broke even. I don't know about you, but it seems to me that to play for 11 straight seasons without a losing record isn't bad for an inconsistent player. Not great by any means, but I'd say it's pretty good.
