Keith Van Horn belongs in Utah By David J. Smith for HOOPSWORLD.com Aug 18, 2006, 19:01 There have been some rumors locally that link former University of Utah Ute Keith Van Horn and the Utah Jazz. Many are hoping these rumors have some semblance of substance. Here are some reasons why it's an extremely logical fit. First, Keith Van Horn is a proven veteran with great Playoff experience. He played significant roles on two NBA Finals teams, a few years back with the New Jersey Nets and last June with the Dallas Mavericks. While he's not been the go-to guy on either of those teams, he demonstrated the ability to play well in some crucial games. He could help a young, inexperienced Jazz squad take that next step into postseason play. Second, he would provide another much-needed outside shooter. Last year's perimeter attack was sporadic at best (minus C/F Mehmet Okur, who sadly enough was Utah's main threat). Jazz brass is banking on Derek Fisher providing the deft outside touch that has been missing, complementing an ever-improving Deron Williams. Still, a team can never have too many shooters. Van Horn has always been a good spot-up three-point shooter, and would allow Sloan some flexibility in creating mismatches in his frontcourt. Third, Van Horn is a talented offensive weapon. Although he is not as spry as he once was, he can still create his own shot. He has length at the three spot and is just wily enough to get to the hole a few times a game. There were many times last season where the Jazz offense sputtered. They need a player like Van Horn with the ability to make some things happen offensively. Fourth, he would join Fisher and Matt Harpring in providing some leadership off the bench. Going down the stretch, Utah needed much more production from its reserves. Van Horn played admirably well behind and alongside Mavs star Dirk Nowitski and could do the same with Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko. Lastly, Van Horn is a local product and is still wildly popular amongst Utah fans. His presence alone would sell some tickets. Many have yearned for the day the former Ute would don a Jazz uniform. While he may be in the twilight of his career, it would be enjoyable for many fans to see one of their own return. On top of all these reasons, Van Horn could probably be had very inexpensively. Utah still has the cap room and could insure themselves by simply offering a two-year contract, with the latter year being a team option. Keith Van Horn in a Jazz uniform? It makes a lot of sense to me… http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_18464.shtml -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.134.49.169
