Utah Jazz Thoughts By David J. Smith for HOOPSWORLD.com Sep 2, 2006, 16:53 DEE BROWN’S CHANCES The Utah Jazz finally signed Dee Brown to a partially guaranteed contract, securing his services at least through training camp. Much has been said regarding the delayed signings. Both Brown's agent and Jazz officials denied reports that he was flirting with a few European squads. Still, Brown's unimpressive Rocky Mountain Review showing had to have left a lot of doubt on both sides (For the Jazz, is he what they want and need in a third point guard? For Brown, will he even make the final roster?). His contract pales in comparison to Paul Milsap's two-year contract (first year guaranteed, second team option), suggesting that his will need to prove he belongs. In my opinion, he is a quick, potentially pace changing guard who should be given a chance. He fits the all too common mold of a natural shooting guard in a point guard's body. He will need to work on his ball-handling and decision making. It's a low risk, high reward move and Utah would be better off holding on to him on sheer potential, rather than to look elsewhere. Should he stick, look for him to pay his dues in the NBDL this first season. Utah is planning on inviting at least one more point guard to training camp, so Brown will be tested. WANTED: A BACK-UP BIG MAN Kevin O'Connor stated that shoring up the front court with a lengthy big man was a priority. Who is still available that could be serviceable in a back-up role? This player would be insurance should another injury hit the front line. The free agent list is short on talent, with names like Kelvin Cato, Marcus Fizer, Michael Bradley, and bust Michael Olowokandi looking for employment. Not an impressive group, although each could do well as a third-stringer. One name that is intriguing is Lakers center Chris Mihm. It appeared toward the end of last season that he lost favor in Phil Jackson's rotation. With Kwame Brown finally showing a pulse and the obvious infatuation with unproven Andrew Bynum, Mihm is the odd man out. Utah would do well to contact Mitch Kupchak about Mihm. Utah doesn't have a whole lot that would interest the Lakers (outside Carlos Boozer, and he's not going anywhere). Gordan Giricek could be a good shooter in the triangle, but he would simply add to an already amazing glut of swingmen. If Utah were to throw in a draft pick, would LA bite? http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_18600.shtml -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.140.110.247
