NBA Rookies: The Rookie Watch By InsideHoops.com | Sept. 14, 2006 INSIDEHOOPS.COM ROOKIE OF YEAR FAVORITES: 1) Adam Morrison (Charlotte Bobcats) -- A scoring machine, Morrison will immediately be handed the rock and given a green light to shoot and score. He'll be the team's first scoring option and clearly should get huge minutes all season, which makes him the initial InsideHoops.com favorite for Rookie of the Year. 2) Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers) -- There's an opening at shooting guard in Portland, and Roy can immediately step in and do big things across the stat board. Roy is probably the most talented rookie, but because Zach Randolph is the team's first offensive option we're giving Morrison a very, very slight edge in our initial rankings. 3) Randy Foye (Minnesota Timberwolves) -- Foye's an awesome swingman who like Roy can contribute immediately. He'll have to, especially with Rashad McCants injured to start the season. Our only concern is that with Kevin Garnett, Mike James and Ricky Davis on the Wolves, Foye has a harder road to stardom than Morrison or Roy. LEGIT SHOT AT AWARD: 4) Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies) -- Traded for Shane Battier, Gay was already looking to do big things. Now with Pau Gasol out for the first few months of the season, Gay will need to step up and should have every opportunity to fill the stat sheet. 5) Andrea Bargnani (Toronto Raptors) -- Taken first overall in the Draft, Bargnani isn't necessarily ready to play full-game minutes, but we feel the Raptors will try anyway. The big forward may be used at center alongside Chris Bosh. Although he could have an immediate impact, it's equally possible he'll be brought along slowly. ALSO NOTABLE: 6) Shelden Williams (Atlanta Hawks) -- The Hawks have no dominant power forward or center, and Shelden has every opportunity to command major minutes. But we see him more as a very good role player than a star. Williams should be excellent at blocking shots, rebounding and playing defense. 7) LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers) -- With Jamaal Magloire and Joel Przybilla at center and Zach Randolph at power forward, Aldridge should have a tough time getting enough minutes to be more than a modest bench contributor. 8) Tyrus Thomas (Chicago Bulls) -- The Bulls have Ben Wallace at center and PJ Brown can do great role player things at power forward. Tyrus Thomas is somewhere in between the three and four spots. Luol Deng is the team's main small forward, and Andres Nocioni plays either forward spot. Thomas has the athletic ability to star, but his actual game is still in development. 9 Ronnie Brewer (Utah Jazz) -- Brewer's more ready to do big things than many realize. Athletic and talented, Brewer can have an immediate impact if given the minutes. Other Rookies Worth Mentioning: Patrick O'Bryant (Golden State Warriors) should be good but not great. Saer Sene (Seattle Sonics) is extremely raw and still developing his basketball skills, though he already blocks shots like crazy. I expect JJ Redick (Orlando Magic) to be a support player and outside shooter who takes a back seat to Dwight Howard, Darko Milicic, Grant Hill and company. Rodney Carney (Philadelphia 76ers) is extremely talented but he'll be competing for playing time with Andre Iguodala (who he won't beat) and Kyle Korver (who he might). Both Hilton Armstrong (New Orleans/OKC Hornets) and Cedric Simmons (also Hornets) have potential to do nice things but David West occupies the power forward spot, and the two play split time with each other and Tyson Chandler so it's tough to say which one will stand out. Jordan Farmar (Los Angeles Lakers) could steal Smush Parker's starting job, in which case he'd be in the top 5-10. Marcus Williams (New Jersey Nets) is good but he'll play behind Jason Kidd, seriously limiting his minutes. http://www.insidehoops.com/nba-rookies.shtml -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.41.173.38
