Posted by Matt McCready on 10.13.2006 Utah Jazz Strengths The one man wrecking crew Andrei Kirilenko, when healthy, can positively affect a team in every possible manner. He can score effectively from every range, can rebound the ball like a demon, plays unselfishly and can find the open man with solid passing. However it's defensively where Kirilenko really showcases his world class talent. He's an absolute menace finishing second in the league in blocks per game (3.2) while also being in the top 25 in steals per game (1.5). Allowing Kirilenko to do all this is a combination of his phenomenal athleticism and outrageous length. He runs the floor like a gazelle and has deceptive strength. Utah is a completely different team when he's on the court. If the team was so lucky to have him in the mid-90s Stockton/Malone days the Bulls might've been the team that never won a championship. The Front Court Joining Kirilenko on the Jazz front court are Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur. Boozer came back from injury last year to post respectable numbers but definitely isn't playing to justify the max deal he got after leaving Cleveland. On the other end of free agent signings is Mehmet Okur, who's continued development has made the Jazz front office look like geniuses. The Turkish Delight set career highs last year in points per game, rebounds, assists, three point percentage and blocks. Okur is a versatile player for a seven footer and his game really compliments Boozer's and Kirilenko. Past those starting three things start to look a little murky, but regardless it's still one of the best frontcourts in basketball. Weaknesses Scoring/Three Point Shooting Last year Utah finished among the five worst teams in points scored per game, three point shooting percentage and free throw percentage. Obviously the team is in need of more players with shooting range. The team helped fill this need with the acquisition of Derek Fisher in the off-season, but he's getting up there in the years and it's debatable how much he has left in the tank. First round draft pick Ronnie Brewer could turn out to be a keeper, however it's doubtful he'll help this area of Utah's game as a childhood accident affected his elbow and his shooting stroke is fugly. Featured acquisition Rafael Aroujo Position: C Age: 26 Height: 6-11 Weight: 290 Speaking of fugly, here's Rafael Aroujo. Fugly; technically it isn't a word but regardless it still describes every aspect of Hoffa's game. Scoring wise he doesn't have any sort of post game. He actually has a decent mid-range shot but really doesn't know when to shoot it (36 percent from the floor last year, a TERRIBLE percentage for a center). As bad as he is offensively, (where he makes Gheorghe Muresan look like Oscar Robinson) defensively is where Hoffa hurts his team the most. His non-existent lateral quickness, abhorrent leaping and disturbingly gruesome anticipation skills caused him to commit twenty times as many fouls as blocked shots last year, a stat that he tied five-foot-five Earl Boykins in last year. Raffy simply cannot guard his man without bearhugging him. Think of former pro wrestler Earthquake, but on a basketball court. To top it all off, Hoffa also received a two year suspension in FIBA basketball for steroid abuse, proving that drugs really don't pay kids. Overall Hoffa aside, the Jazz look like a pretty good team this year. Deron Williams' improvement will be crucial to their success. If he follows up on his solid rookie season and AK-47 stays healthy then Utah should be looking forward to the post-season this year. 47 Wins http://www.411mania.com/sports/nba/46304/ 411-NBA-2006-07-Preview:-Northwest-Division.htm -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.41.36.205
