Jazz's O'Connor signs extension By Phil Miller The Salt Lake Tribune Article Last Updated:11/02/2006 05:32:54 PM MST The team he assembled opened the season with great promise on Wednesday. One day later, Kevin O'Connor was rewarded for his role, too. O'Connor, in charge of player acquisition for the past seven years, signed a new multi-year contract Thursday after "about 15 minutes" of negotiation, he said. "I don't know if I'd even classify them as negotiations. We sat down, I said 'Are you comfortable with how things are going?' and they said they are." O'Connor was entering the final season of a contract he signed in 2002, but said he never considered the possibility of going anywhere else. "I've always wanted this to be my last job," said O'Connor, hired to replace Scott Layden in 1999. "I feel very comfortable with the organization, as long as they're comfortable with me. There are not many jobs in the NBA where you have an owner who cares as much for the guys who work for him as much as Larry 'Miller" does." The Jazz believe the 2006-07 season, which opened with a 107-97 victory over Houston on Wednesday, has the promise to be the team's best since John Stockton and Karl Malone departed. But O'Connor said he doesn't feel any pride for himself in the roster he has built through free agency, trades and draft picks. "It's a collective deal here," said O'Connor, who works closely with Miller, president Dennis Haslam, coach Jerry Sloan and the coaching staff on player decisions. "We have an organization that cares a lot more about trying to win games than taking credit. If I have any pride, I take a lot of pride that the guys on this team are a group of quality people as well as basketball players." http://www.sltrib.com/ci_4592763 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 219.135.156.69
