Utah in no hurry to fill vacant roster spot By Tim Buckley Deseret Morning News Off to a 9-1 start that matches the best in franchise history, the Jazz will stand pat. At least for now. "Everything's quiet," Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor said when asked Saturday if there are any immediate plans to fill the 15th roster spot created when point guard Brian Chase was waived last week. "We're gonna play it like it is for a while." O'Connor said the decision is largely influenced by coach Jerry Sloan's desire to take a long look at several of his younger players ─ especially C.J. Miles, Ronnie Brewer and Roger Powell Jr. ─ while usual starting small forward Andrei Kirilenko (sprained right ankle) and usual backup shooting guard Gordan Giricek (right Achilles tendinitis) continue to recover from injuries. "He was the one who said he wants to see how the young kids do ─ and I don't think you do it in one game or two games," O'Connor said. "I would say you've got to give it five or six games before you can even evaluate." As for Kirilenko and Giricek, neither played in Saturday night's overtime win over Phoenix. Kirilenko has now missed the last three games and Giricek the past five. There still is no anticipated return date for either. "They're probably not gonna play Monday night," O'Connor said of the Jazz's next game, vs. Toronto at the Delta Center, "and we'll take it from there." BREWER WANTED: According to Saturday's Seattle Times, the Sonics would have chosen Brewer ─ who was taken No. 14 overall ─ had they not landed the center they wanted earlier in last June's NBA Draft. "He just didn't make any sense for us, with Damien Wilkins and Ray Allen," Sonics coach Bob Hill told the Times. "(But) if Mouhamed Saer Sene was gone, we would have taken him anyway, because we liked him." With Kirilenko out, Brewer has started the last three games at small forward for the Jazz. MISC.: The Jazz debuted Carolina blue jerseys Saturday. In time, the new look will become their alternative road uniform. ... Ex-Jazz guard Raja Bell scored 20 points with 6-of-10 shooting from the field before fouling out with six minutes and 21 minutes remaining in regulation Saturday. ... Rookie guard Dee Brown dressed but did not play (coach's decision) for the Jazz. ... In the midst of a stretch with three games in four nights, the Jazz will take today off from practice. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,650208517,00.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.140.108.249
