UTAH JAZZ NOTES: Kirilenko returns to hospital to be with wife and son By Phil Miller The Salt Lake Tribune Article Last Updated: 03/08/2007 01:28:30 AM MST Andrei Kirilenko headed to a hospital immediately after Wednesday's game and spent the night there. Don't worry. His back, knees and ankles are fine. The Jazz's starting small forward is staying with his wife Masha, who will remain hospitalized for another day or two following the caesarean section birth Tuesday of the couple's second child, Stepan. "She feels good, but she can't walk for few days," Kirilenko said. "So OK, I can sleep in hospital." He spent much of Wednesday morning accepting congratulations from his teammates (and, judging by the humidor in the locker room, distributing the finest cigars in celebration). Getting shorter The Jazz's shootaround broke up several minutes early on Wednesday morning, so the players could change into their game uniforms for the annual team picture. And Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said he plans to make it a habit the rest of the year. The shorter practices, that is, not the photo. Shootarounds generally take roughly 40 minutes on the morning of each game, but with the playoffs fast approaching, Sloan said he intends to shave 10-15 minutes off of the workouts. "We'll shorten things up and try to keep everyone fresh," the coach said. Besides, Sloan added, "They're getting tired of listening to me. Advertisement And I don't have anything left to say." No reflection on him Kirilenko's minutes have declined this season by more than 20 percent over last year. And lately, the Russian has had a difficult time getting on the floor during the fourth quarter. In three of the Jazz's last five games, in fact, Kirilenko has played fewer than two minutes of the final period. But the lack of time at the end is not a benching and has nothing to do with the coaches' confidence in him, assistant coach Phil Johnson said. "It's just the circumstances we've had lately, nothing to do with Andrei," Johnson said. "We've had some games lately that weren't close at the end. And the biggest thing is, Matt [Harpring] is just playing so well right now. . . . It's not a reflection on Andrei, it's just that Matt is making it difficult to take him out right now." pmiller@sltrib.com http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_5382427 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.41.44.238
