Miles ahead: Jazz youngster finally not a teenager, but he still has a ways
to go

      C.J. Miles spent his last day as a teenager playing legit minutes in
Cleveland on Saturday, and dealing with a young NBA superstar — LeBron James
— who looks physically mature and acts much the same well beyond his years.

   On Sunday, back home in Utah after the Jazz completed a four-game trip
back East, Miles — late in his second NBA season, drafted by the Jazz
straight out of his Texas high school in 2005 — turned 20 years old.

就在爵士隊結束了東區四場比賽並回到猶他州的那個周日，被爵士隊在2005年選中的

   Finally.

   Not that it was any big deal to him.

   "I'm still not 21," he said, leaving unsaid all the implications of
full-fledged adulthood that go with the milestone age.

   Truth be told, Miles' own maturation has been an unfolding process, one
pushed along — perhaps prematurely — when he opened this season as the
Jazz's starting shooting guard.

   The role lasted only a dozen games, and since then Miles' has been used
sporadically, coming in off the bench at times, dressing but not playing
others, paying a visit to minor-league Idaho of the D-League, making a spot
start at small forward, even taking multiple turns on the inactive list.

   It's with that in mind that Miles wasn't too down after missing four of
his five shots from the field while playing — with backup shooting guard
Gordan Giricek and backup small forward Matt Harpring both out with injuries
— 17 minutes in an 82-73 loss to the Cavs.

   "I just play as hard as I can, knowing that Coach (Jerry Sloan), he
knows I can shoot the ball, but the other thing he really wants is to see me
play hard and play on the defensive end," said Miles, who on his final day as
a 19-year-old had the unenviable task of dealing with 22-year-old All-Star
James.

   "So I know as long as I play on the defensive end and don't make

real good look, where I can really just sit and find (the open shot), and
when I find it ... I'm good.       "It's just hard to find your rhythm as a
shooter when you're used sparingly," Miles added. "I go in and out. Back when
I was playing minutes, it was easier to get in a rhythm, because I was taking
more shots."

   Sloan has displayed an unusually nurturing patience with Miles, whose
two-year contract is up after this season — leaving the Jazz with a decision
regarding re-signing him.

   "He's a young player ... trying to understand what's going on," the
Jazz coach said. "When he sits there, he's got a chance to see.

   "And he's got to continue to try to work to make himself better,
whether it's on the defensive part of the floor or the offensive end of the

to adjust to it and be able to play under those conditions."

   The affable Miles readily accepts that assessment, and Sloan's
tough-to-please approach.

   "He's fair. If anything, he's fair," Miles said. "I mean, you know if
you go out there and you play hard, and you play as hard as you can, if you
play on (the defensive end), he's not really worried about offense.

   "He knows how it is rhythm-wise on offensive end. But the defensive

   "So I kind of figured that out," he added, "and I'm thinking as long as
I go down there and play hard maybe I'll get a steal and get a layup, or if I
just crash the boards maybe I'll get a tip-in — just try to get stuff like
that to try to get me going and keep my confidence up, and get that basket
back to looking like it was when I was playing a lot of minutes."

Amundson, who played one game for the Jazz earlier this season, to a second
10-day contract ... Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin
O'Connor has been busy scouting NCAA Tournament games, but took time out to
watch the Jazz on Saturday in Cleveland ... Tonight at EnergySolutions Arena,
Boozer and fellow forward Andrei Kirilenko will honor about 3,000 young
Junior Jazz players, coaches and parents who have been tapped for their
displays of good sportsmanship this season.
