The 25-year-old forward was born in Germany, grew up in Alaska, and now lives
in Miami during the offseason. He and his wife Cindy met while they were
students at Duke, and they now have a son, Carmani, who turns will be a year
old in May.
Is it difficult trying to be a parent during an NBA career?
It's extremely tough, especially where he is right now. He's developing
and changing a lot, trying to take his first step. It's tough because you
want to be a part of it, but you can't always because of what we're doing.
What sort of parent are you?
I try to spend as much time as I possibly can. Every time I see him is
precious, and I try to make the most of it. I do all the normal stuff -
changing him, getting up at 3 a.m. for feeding. I love doing all of that
myself.
What would you be doing without basketball?
I'd be home in Miami. I'd probably be doing something in real estate.
Maybe the owner of a company or trying to become an executive. I've always
had a good mind for business. ... I took some classes in college, but in the
last seven or eight years, the guys around me, I've taken what they've taught
me about business and investing and put it toward my own thing.
