Are Disgruntled Jazz Fans Too Hard On Their Team?

Just a few minutes into their home game against the Phoenix Suns, the Jazz
lost their fans. Trailing 13-1, the 'Boos' started flowing.

And they were not saying Carlos BOOzer.

While talking to one disgruntled Jazz fan who wanted to know "what's wrong
with this team," I had to remind him that nothing is wrong… except the
lofty expectations created by a sensational start to a season that began
nearly 6 months ago.

Certainly, the Jazz are just as frustrated with their play as devoted fans
are. And the fans pay plenty for the right to "boo" if they want to. But
let's be honest, the Jazz are what they are. Or to make more sense, they are
about what they should be -- a 4th or 5th seeded playoff team with a decent
record. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Let me explain.

The Jazz began the season by winning 12 of their first 13 games. A 12-1
record was tops in the league and included a win over Houston, and TWO
victories over the Suns. Some fans were not only whispering about the
playoffs, but hinting at another run for the title.

Since their win over the Lakers on Friday November 24th, the Jazz' record is
-- drum roll please -- 37-30! Seven games above .500, or about the same as
the Denver Nuggets. At 1-6 in their last seven games, the Jazz clearly were
more prepared to start the season then they appear to be to finish it.

This is not to say the Jazz can’t turn it on in the postseason, and perhaps
win a series even if they DON’T have home court advantage.

In fact, do they really want to be at home? The Jazz have not won a home game
in April and their only two wins this month were at Houston (first round
opponent) and Dallas (some say that was a gift).

Still, if the Jazz can't get out of the first round don't be too hard on
them. Making it to the playoffs in the middle of the pack?

Sure beats the lottery!
