NBA analysts give Raptors coach Sam Mitchell nod as their pick for
coach of the year

TORONTO (CP) - Sam Mitchell gets TNT's vote as the NBA's coach of the year.
TNT's panel of NBA analysts announced their picks for the 2006-07 league
awards yesterday, and four of the six TNT analysts -- Charles Barkley, Doug
Collins, Reggie Miller and John Thompson -- picked Mitchell to win the Red
Auerbach trophy as the league's top coach.
Steve Kerr picked Jerry Sloan of the Utah Jazz, while Kenny Smith went with
Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson.
Mitchell has led a revamped Raptors squad with nine new players to its first
division title in franchise history. They clinched homecourt for the first
round of the NBA post-season with Sunday's 107-105 win over New York, and one
win in their final two games will make this their most successful regular
season in franchise history.
The race for league MVP, meanwhile, was a dead heat for the TNT analysts.
Collins, Miller and Thompson selected Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash of
Victoria, while Barkley, Kerr and Smith picked Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk
Nowitzki.
The NBA's annual awards are decided by a vote of a panel of 124 sportswriters
and broadcasters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
