Utah Jazz Employ Full-Time Psychologist Fields Moseley Reporting May 25, 2007 9:07 pm US/Mountain (KUTV) The Jazz are one of a handful of NBA teams that invest in a staff psychologist. So what is the team doing to keep their head in the game? Nothing new when it comes to the mental game. He tells us, he's there to give players perspective. But it's the work all season that makes the difference. 0 and 2, the Jazz have been here before, in the first round against Houston, but it's not time to lose faith. Doctor Keith Henschen knows the Jazz inside and out. He's not only a fan, he's the team psychologist. Going to almost every practice when the team is in town and helping players deal with just about anything. "Most high level world class athletes aren't special people they are just people with special physical talents, they have the same problems the rest of us do," says Dr. Henschen. The only problem most of them don't have is money. Everything else is on the table and when a person is paid a lot of money to play basketball well, and be a celebrity, Henschen says the stress can build. In years past he says injuries to players like Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko were difficult for those players, but also the whole team. "What to expect afterwards? What fears do you have? Because all of us have fears because doctor may clear us but mind may not be ready to get back into the rugged competition," Dr. Henschen says. Now they are healthy physically, and Dr. Henschen says there is no need for any drastic counseling sessions in a tough series against the Spurs. The work all season can carry them forward. Dr. Henschen says, "They have that capacity to come back." Henschen says the Jazz have a real commitment to the mental health of the players. His next stop is Florida where he will interview potential draftees. He will evaluate if they can fit in with Sloan's coaching environment and if they have heart. http://kutv.com/local/local_story_145230852.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.41.171.113
