JAZZ: Ginobili carries Spurs through fourth quarter By Steve Luhm The Salt Lake Tribune Article Last Updated: 05/29/2007 02:37:51 AM MDT http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_6010915 Manu Ginobili snapped to life Monday night, just in time to all but kill the Utah Jazz's chances in the Western Conference finals. Ginobili scored 16 of his 22 points in the decisive fourth quarter, when the Spurs outplayed and outexecuted the Jazz en route to a 91-79 victory that gives them a 3-1 stranglehold on the best-of-seven series. After scoring 12 points in 4-for-12 shooting during the Jazz's 109-83 win in Game 3, Ginobili was on his way to another subpar performance. He had only six points through three quarters, when he admittedly did little to "get into their skin." But that all changed with the game on the line, in the fourth quarter, which began with the Spurs clinging to a 63-62 lead. "At that point, it was getting really tough for us," said Ginobili, who made 11 of his 13 free throws in the final 11:15. "They had a nice streak. Fans were going nuts and they looked inspired. "I don't remember what happened exactly that kept us going, but I am very proud of what we did in the fourth quarter because it was looking ugly for us and we really stepped up." Ginobili scored six points in the first 2:45 of the final quarter, including a three-pointer that pushed San Antonio's lead to 70-66. Utah never got closer. "Manu was very aggressive in the fourth quarter and got himself a couple of open shots and free throws," said coach Gregg Popovich. "His aggressiveness always helps us at the offense end." Ginobili won his game-within-a-game against Jazz veteran Derek Fisher, who ended up fouling out trying to keep him away from the basket. Fisher was also called for his second technical after his sixth foul. "I don't know why he got upset," Ginobili said. "I don't recall doing anything for that to happen. But, you know, if it helps the team win and gets a couple of easy free throws, I'm going to do it." San Antonio scored only 13 points in the third quarter, including four in the final seven minutes. The Spurs watched an 11-point lead shrink to just one, thanks mostly to 6-for-20 shooting. "We didn't score much in the third quarter," Popovich said. "I don't remember exactly what it was . . . [but] we needed to score in the fourth and [Ginobili] helped us do that." San Antonio can close out Utah in Game 5 on Wednesday night. "The mentality has got to be the same - exactly the same as the one today," Ginobili said. "It was not - what we did in Game 3 was not right. It was not the appropriate fear that we should have had. But today we did." luhm@sltrib.com -- I don't remember what happened...but Jazz lost the game.... -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 76.102.70.99
