Checking In, Getting Feet Wet
Oct 9, 2007
I'm done with practice today, so I thought it would be a good time to collect
myself, unwind, and put some thoughts down on paper.
I usually spend my downtime and off days lounging in my apartment. I live
here with my best friend Greg, who was my teammate for all four years at
Rice, and my dad. They both have really helped me stay on top of things away
from the court, and have helped make the transition to Utah that much
smoother. Things like paying bills, setting up appliances around the apartment,
navigating our way around the city -- we handle most of it as a team.
Pops does all the cooking though.
He's pretty good too.
The biggest issue we have is just keeping enough food
in the fridge and pantry because we all like to eat. But there's a good
health food grocery store close by, so we should be all right.
Our team finished training camp yesterday afternoon, after spending the past
week in Idaho at Boise State University. I've been reading on NBA.com about
some of the other teams and their training camps over in places like Hawaii,
Italy, and Turkey … I can only imagine what that was like.
Our daily camp
routine was pretty standard─practice in the morning, lunch, nap, practice in
the evening, dinner, and sleep. We didn't do much sightseeing in Boise, as
you might imagine. We put in a good week of work, took care of business, and
flew back home to Salt Lake.
That's about it for now. I'll keep this first entry fairly light and basic.
It's a long season, and there will be plenty of opportunities to touch on
all kinds of topics. A couple people have asked me if my entries were going
to be anything like fellow blogger
Gilbert Arenas'. While I won't exactly
be chronicling my efforts to purchase
Barry Bonds' 756th home run ball, I do
plan to keep it up-to-date and as engaging as possible.
Preseason games kick off for us on Wednesday at home against Milwaukee.
We'll see how it goes.
