"I'm get close with the good persons," Kirilenko said. "He's a great guy,
not only a good player. He's a great person. Since my first year in the
league and his first year, we've become good friends. We've been in the
rookie competition and always been an admirer. I'm an admirer of his game.
The way he is playing, is a very hard game, a tough game, hard to beat him.
It's not a dirty game. It's really like very competitive game."
Asked if he enjoyed going against a Battier, Kirilenko answered quickly,
"No. I don't enjoy it. It's hard. I know he's a good defender and every game
is different. Every game he can show you new tricks. And you can show him
something different."
Battier has not enjoyed the match ups with Kirilenko either, though partly
because he has so often come out of those game hurt with everything from a
cut lip to a staph infection. "We started a friendship way back when in the
rookie game way back when in Philly," Battier said. "He's a nice guy. I like
him a lot. One of the good guys in the league.
"We're competitors. We'll do anything to win. We'll shake hands before the
game and after the game. When you play, it's all business."
