Bogut, Bucks agree on 5-year extension

The Bucks are making a serious commitment to center Andrew Bogut, who will
sign a five-year extension with salary and bonuses worth up to $72.5 million,
according to agent David Bauman.

Today is the first day for NBA free agents and players seeking extensions to
sign contracts.

The extension does not affect the $6.9 million he is owed for the coming
season, the final year of his rookie contract. Sources indicated the
guaranteed money in the extension is $60 million.

"We've come to an agreement to extend Andrew's contract," Bucks general
manager John Hammond said this afternoon.

Bogut, the top overall pick in the 2005 draft, said last season that he
wanted to remain with the Bucks for the long-term, despite the team's
struggles during the past two seasons.

Bogut played in 78 games last season and averaged 14.3 points and 9.8 rebounds.

The 7-foot center was hoping to sign an extension as early as possible to
clear his way to compete with the Australian team in the Beijing Olympics.

Bogut's deal is one of the largest in franchise history, and he will average
$12 million over the length of the extension in guaranteed money. The deal
has a "flat" structure, allowing the Bucks some salary cap relief in the
later years of the deal. Bonuses include team-based and individual incentives.

"He feels extremely valued by the franchise and feels that he is an important
piece going forward," Bauman said. "His goal is to win games and make the
playoffs."

Bauman said Bogut felt a bit of "jealousy" this spring while watching two
other SFX Basketball clients, Vladimir Radmanovic and Peja Stojakovic, go
deep in the playoffs with their teams. Radmanovic and the Los Angeles Lakers
reached the NBA Finals, while Stojakovic and New Orleans advanced to the
Western Conference finals.

Bogut immediately left Melbourne on a flight for Los Angeles and should be
in Chicago on Thursday night. It is expected he will sign the contract in
Milwaukee on Friday before returning to join his Australian national team.

"It was a non-economic issue in the negotiations, but one that was very
important to Andrew," Bauman said of getting the deal done quickly so he
could focus on the Olympics.

The Bucks' single largest deal was the the six-year, $91 million maximum
contract signed by Michael Redd in the summer of 2005. Point guard Mo
Williams signed a six-year, $51 million contract last summer, when he was
an unrestricted free agent.

Redd has three years and $51 million remaining on his deal, and the Bucks
recently traded for small forward Richard Jefferson, who has three years and
$42.4 million remaining on a contract he signed with his former team, the New
Jersey Nets.

公鹿過去最大張約是麥克雷德於2005簽的六年9100萬頂薪。

"The max is a dubious thing and was never our goal," Bauman said.
"If Andrew performs, he will be paid like an all-star."
