Has Koufos hit The Great Rookie Wall?

The fact that Kosta Koufos only played two minutes Friday night - and
registered his second scoreless game in the past three outings - might lead
some fans to wonder if he's falling out of favor with Jerry Sloan.

哭佛禮拜五晚上只上場2分鐘 ─

On Friday night Koufos sat on the bench while another of the teacher's pets
(Jarron Collins) got some extended playing time because of his experience.
Tim Buckley has some good stuff on that in the Jazz notes for Saturday's
editions.

That scenario might continue to happen as Collins works his way back into
playing shape from his rough beginning of the season after that ill-fated
golf-cart accident.

But Sloan is still plenty high on Koufos - well, judging some recent comments
he made when asked at practice earlier this week if he believes in the
"Rookie Wall." That question was posed a day after Koufos went 0-for-3 for
zero points in 14 minutes against Indiana.

Sloan's first response: "I've never heard of it."

It was explained then that that wall supposedly happens to young 'uns after
NBA teams surpass the amount of games they played in college. Sloan didn't
necessarily buy into that theory.

Sloan believes players - young and old - often run into walls because they

whether you're a 10-year player or a 1-year player," he said."When

Sloan went back a decade to give anecdotal proof of his theory.

don't think he ever showed any signs of what you're talking about," Sloan
said. "Everybody said this guy's in great shape ... and he never missed a
beat from the time we started training camp."

Bringing the topic back to Koufos, Sloan still has high hopes for the big
youngster - mostly because of his work ethic.

"I don't think he's tired, not at all. I watch him run as hard as anybody on
the team. I don't think it's tiredness, I think it's understanding," Sloan
said. "He's 19 years old. He doesn't understand 27 out of the 29 other
philosophies. He's still trying to learn ours."

Quite frankly, Sloan admitted, the coach thought nights like Friday's
two-minute performance would be more likely to happen than Wednesday night
when Koufos played 28 minutes and scored 14 points or the Dec. 26 Dallas game
when he had a career-best 18 points in 29 minutes.

"He's done a wonderful job considering where he started off. I saw him
playing in the summer league, and there wasn't any way he was going to get
into a game in the regular-season if you saw him in the summer league," Sloan
said. "So give him the credit, he's worked. He hasn't jacked around. He's
come out and worked his butt off every day."

Sloan just hopes this teen who was playing high school hoops two years ago
keeps that up.

"I think he has a chance to become a very good player if he doesn't lose his
work habit. If he loses his work habit, that's the thing that hurts because
you're not going to be in shape to be able to play tough from the beginning
to get that little edge on somebody."

Millsap makes return for Jazz
米爺回來了！

Each one alone would be a problem, but the twin black braces on Paul
Millsap 's knees told the story of the Jazz forward's return Saturday.

對於一般人來說或許是個問題
不過米爺帶著膝蓋上的兩個黑色支架回來了

Millsap nevertheless was back on the court after missing three games with a
bruised right knee. He went through warmups before deciding to play and
finished with four points, three rebounds and five fouls in 21 minutes.

在右膝蓋挫傷缺席三場後，米爺回來了。
他在熱身後決定上場
最終上場21分鐘，拿下4分，3籃板，還有五次犯規。

"I got in foul trouble due to silliness because of my knee, trying to make up
for it, but that's how the game goes," Millsap said.

Millsap said he felt OK "in spurts" and was hopeful he could be closer to 100
percent by Tuesday's game against Minnesota.

On the bright side, Millsap said his hyperextended left knee was 100 percent,
but he must wear a brace for protection a couple of more weeks.

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan noted that Millsap hadn't even had a chance to
practice before returning. "I don't know what to do other than to try to play

Sloan said.
