              Caneira delighted with Valencia move

    Valencia wrapped up the signing of Marco Caneira from Bordeaux yesterday.

    The Portugal international will play the season on-loan at the Mestalla
after Valencia agreed to pay ￡350,000 for the 12-month deal.

    Bordeaux resisted Valencia's demand that a purchase option be included
in the transfer.

    But the Spanish champs are confident that if Caneira impresses they will
be able to sign the defender, as he will have only a year left on his
Bordeaux contract at the end of this season.

    "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me," said Caneira, 25,
"everyone wants to play for a club of Valencia's stature."
