Sebastien Loeb wins our greatest driver poll
Visitors to wrc.com have voted defending world champion Sebastian Loeb as the
World Rally Championship’s Greatest Driver.
A total of 94,697 votes were cast in the two week poll, which comprised a
shortlist of 14 drivers from the past and present of the WRC.
Loeb’s total of 34,772 votes put him 5,975 ahead of the man in second place,
1995 World Champion Colin McRae, while Walter Rohrl, Champion in 1980 and
1982, came third with 11,521 votes.
Like the last WRC round in Turkey there was a furious fight to the finish.
More than 18,000 votes were cast in the last 24 hours alone and Loeb’s
legions of fans clearly put in a lot of finger work to increase his share of
the vote from 32 to 36 per cent.
Here is the final vote count and the percentages for our top five:
1. Sebastien Loeb: 34,772 (36.7%)
2. Colin McRae: 28,797 (30.4%)
3. Walter Rohrl: 11,521 (12.16%)
4. Tommi Makinen: 4,560 (4.81%)
5. Marcus Gronholm: 3,121 (3.29%)
6. Juha Kankkunen: 2,946
7. Henri Toivonen: 2,430
8. Richard Burns: 1,896
9. Carlos Sainz: 1,502
10. Ari Vatanen: 1,128
11. Markku Alen: 616
12. Miki Biasion: 554
13. Didier Auriol: 436
14. Bjorn Waldegard: 418
