後面這句話應該是指：他曾經解釋，那段不能飛行的時間(因為大拇指斷了無法飛行)
或許救了他的性命，尤其是當時德軍飛機數量已經遠少於美英俄聯軍的數量，因此
在戰場上生存的機會已大幅的下降。
