Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know' Roars to No. 1 on Hot 100

Fueled by a "Glee" remake and his appearance on "Saturday Night Live," Gotye
scores his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his first entry on the
songs chart, as "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, lifts 2-1.

With the "Glee" cast having performed its version of the song on the Fox
series' April 10 episode and Gotye and Kimbra having sung "Somebody" on NBC's
"Saturday Night Live" on April 14, the track sold 542,000 downloads in the
April 9-15 tracking period, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum is the
fourth-best since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003. Here are
the five highest weekly totals:

While aided by TV exposure, Gotye's "Somebody" nets the highest weekly
digital sales total for a song not powered by debut week sales ("Right
Round") or Christmas week consumer behavior ("TiK ToK," "Grenade"). (The
"Glee" cast cover of "Somebody," meanwhile, sold 152,000 downloads and debuts
on the Digital Songs chart at No. 10 and the Hot 100 at No. 26.)


在熱門影集Glee翻唱、選秀節目American Idol及The Voice參賽者選唱、
以及初登Saturday Night Live宣傳的推波助瀾之下，
澳洲籍歌手Gotye與Kimbra合作的Somebody That I Used To Know，
本週奪下告示牌單曲榜冠軍。

Somebody That I Used To Know在最新的統計週間總共被下載了54.2萬次，
創下數位下載有史以來單週第四高銷量。

同時，Glee Cast翻唱的版本數位下載也高達15.2萬次，
打進告示牌單曲榜第26名。




Having moved to Australia at age 2, Gotye is the first Australian-raised act
to reign since Savage Garden led for four weeks in 2000 with "I Knew I Loved
You." He's the first solo Australian to command the Hot 100 since Olivia
Newton-John racked 10 weeks at No. 1 beginning in November 1981 with
"Physical" and the first solo male from Down Under to rise up to the top spot
since Rick Springfield led with "Jessie's Girl" that August 31 years ago.


Gotye繼野人花園於2000年以I Knew I Loved You拿下告示牌單曲榜四週冠軍之後，
睽違12年再度以澳洲籍歌手的身分獲得此項殊榮。

Gotye同時也是所有澳洲籍solo歌手中，
繼奧莉薇亞紐頓強（Olivia Newton-John）於1981年以Physical拿下告示牌冠軍後，
睽違31年再度奪下Hot 100榜首的第一人。

And, as "Somebody," which led Billboard's Rock Songs chart for four weeks,
dethrones fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, after six weeks
atop the Hot 100 (as "Young" conversely replaces "Somebody" at the Rock Songs
summit), two rock-based tracks have reigned back-to-back on the Hot 100 for
the first time since Matchbox Twenty's "Bent" succeeded Vertical Horizon's
"Everything You Want" the week of July 22, 2000.


隨著前任冠軍We Are Young退位、Somebody That I Used To Know即位，
兩首以搖滾為基調的歌曲先後拿下告示牌單曲榜冠軍。

上一次出現這種情形要追溯到2000年夏天，
Vertical Horizon的Everything You Want與Matchbox Twenty的Bent先後奪冠。
