HOT DIGITAL SONGS
Over on the Digital Songs chart, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is a
non-mover at No. 1, selling 251,000 downloads (down 5%). In fact, the entire
top five titles are stationary this week. Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" (207,000;
down 6%), Maroon 5's "Payphone" featuring Wiz Khalifa (186,000; down 15%),
Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" featuring Kimbra (156,000; down 11%)
and Ellie Goulding's "Lights" (152,000; up 2%) round out the rest of the Nos.
2-4 slots, respectively.
At No. 6 is the Digital Songs chart's highest new entry, "Good Time" by Owl
City & Carly Rae Jepsen. It debuts with 140,000 downloads.
David Guetta's "Titanium," featuring Sia, slips 6-7 with 125,000 (down 1%)
and Flo Rida's "Whistle" flies 32-8 with 113,000 (up 115%). The song has been
featured in recently TV commercials on The CW touting the network's summer
lineup.
Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" moves 7-9 (110,000; down 9%) and Usher's
"Scream" rounds out the top 10, falling 8-10 with 102,000 (down 14%).
HOT 100 SONGS
Carly Rae Jepsen rules the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth week with "Call Me
Maybe," while the singer concurrently scores the chart's highest new entry.
David Guetta's "Titanium," featuring Sia, meanwhile, reaches the top 10 and
Maroon 5's "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, tops the Radio Songs survey.
"Maybe" sustains its Hot 100 command as it leads the Digital Songs chart for
a seventh week (251,000 downloads sold, down 5%, according to Nielsen
SoundScan). With the sum, the song passes 4 million sold to-date. "Maybe"
dips 2-3, however, on Radio Songs (131 million all-format audience
impressions, up 1%, according to Nielsen BDS) and 1-2 after three weeks atop
On-Demand Songs (898,000 on-demand streams, down 22%, according to BDS).
Jepsen adds the Hot 100's top debut to her haul this week, as her second
entry on the list, "Good Time," a duet with Owl City, bounds in at No. 18.
The track storms Digital Songs at No. 6 with opening-week sales of 140,000.
The collaboration just misses the 75-position Radio Songs chart, having
registered 14 million in audience (up 282%) following its first full week at
radio.
"Good Time" marks Owl City's first Hot 100 appearance since 2010. The one-man
act (Adam Young) topped the tally for two weeks in November 2009 with debut
single "Fireflies."
Another notable feat for Jepsen: as she's a former contestant on "Canadian
Idol," having placed third in the series' fifth season in 2007, "Maybe" has
now spent more time at No. 1 on the Hot 100 than any single by any "American
Idol" finalist. With a fourth week on top, the song passes Kelly Clarkson's
"Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" (three weeks at No. 1 earlier this year)
as the longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1 by an "American" or "Canadian" "Idol."
Below "Maybe," Maroon 5's "Payphone" holds at No. 2 on the Hot 100, fueled by
jumps to No. 1 on Radio Songs and On-Demand Songs. The cut lifts 3-1 on the
former chart with a 3% gain to 133 million, marking Maroon 5's second Radio
Songs leader. Its last entry, "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina
Aguilera, led for seven weeks. (Thus, after waiting more than eight years for
its first Radio Songs topper, dating to the arrival of debut entry "Harder to
Breathe" in 2003, the group rules again just more than eight months later.)
"Payphone" is Khalifa's first Radio Songs No. 1.
"Payphone" likewise charges 3-1 on On-Demand Songs (933,000, up 1%). It holds
at No. 3 on Digital Songs (186,000, down 15%). Its latest sales frame ups its
total past 3 million sold since its release.
The Nos. 3-8 songs on the Hot 100 also remain static from last week, led by
Gotye's former eight-week No. 1 "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring
Kimbra, at No. 3. Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" freezes at No. 4, followed by
Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" (No. 5), the chart's top Airplay Gainer (110
million, up 15%), and Ellie Goulding's "Lights" (No. 6). Fun.'s former
six-week No. 1 "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, is a non-mover at No.
7 and Nicki Minaj's "Starships" holds at No. 8.
David Guetta boasts the Hot 100's lone new top 10 entry, as "Titanium,"
featuring Sia, jumps 12-9. The track makes twin 17-13 advances on Radio Songs
(48 million, up 11%) and On-Demand Songs (434,000, up 1%), while descending
6-7 on Digital Songs (125,000, down 1%).
"Titanium" marks Guetta's fifth Hot 100 top 10 and the third from his album
"Nothing But the Beat." "Without You," featuring Usher, and "Turn Me On,"
featuring Minaj, each reached No. 4. The DJ becomes the first male artist
signed to Capitol Records to notch three top 10s from an album since M.C.
Hammer scored a trio of top 10s from "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em," which
led the Billboard 200 for 21 weeks, in 1990: "U Can't Touch This" (No. 8),
"Have You Seen Her" (No. 4) and "Pray" (No. 2).
For Sia, 2012 has seen the singer rise from niche singer/songwriter, perhaps
best known from her song "Breathe Me" accompanying the touching closing
sequence of the finale of HBO's "Six Feet Under" in 2005, to go-to pop
vocalist. The Australian (nee, Sia Furler) reached No. 5 on the Hot 100 in
May as featured on Flo Rida's "Wild Ones."
Flo Rida, meanwhile, nets this week's top Digital Gainer award, as his
follow-up single "Whistle" vaults 58-20 on the Hot 100. It jumps 32-8 on
Digital Songs with a 115% gain to 113,000. The rapper released parent album
"Wild Ones" yesterday (July 3).
Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Usher's "Scream" holds at No. 10 for a
second week.
