According to various reports, former Wizard Larry Hughes has been placed
on the trading block by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hughes, who left Washington
to sign a five-year deal worth between $65 million and $70 million with Clev
eland in the summer of 2005, has struggled to play at the level he displayed
with the Wizards during the 2004-05 season.Hughes has battled injuries, comp
lained about his role in Coach Mike Brown's offense and this season is shoot
ing a career-worst 33.8 percent. He was also booed during Sunday night's hom
e loss to Golden State.
A report in yesterday's Cleveland Plain Dealer, citing an unnamed source
, said that the Wizards are among the teams that have been contacted about p
ossible interest in Hughes. According to a league source familiar with the s
ituation, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry is open to trading Hughes bu
t the Wizards have no interest.According to the source, the Cavaliers will f
ace two major issues in trying to move Hughes: He has three years and more t
han $38 million remaining on his contract and has been bothered by a string
of injuries during his career; he has already missed 14 games with a leg inj
ury this season.
