David James has revealed he would be confident enough to take a penalty
against Germany on Sunday.
The England goalkeeper has started against Algeria and Slovenia and will
keep his place in the lineup in Bloemfontein.
James said in The Sun: "Of course I'll take one because if the situation
occurred, there would be certain players who would rather not take
penalties.
"I'm not naming names but the reality is that some players are less
inclined. Maybe I'll take the last one."
England have been on the receiving end of a goalkeeper’s penalty when
Portugal’s Ricardo scored in winner in the Euro 2004 quarter-finals.
But James believes that England are capable of beating their rivals after
a less-than-convincing start to their World Cup campaign.
"We have a strong side and we are not fearful of them at all. We are
confident we will make the British people happy by beating Germany."
England manager Fabio Capello has named Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard,
Wayne Rooney, James Milner and Gareth Barry as his five takers and they
have been practicing extensively after every training session.
