Lesson 3 Standard Methods of Input

Keyboarding

The skill of typing.The ability to enter text by using ten fingers and
without having to look at the keys.
打字的技術 用十隻手指輸入文字且不用看鍵盤的能力

The Alphanumeric Keys

The parts of the keyboard that look like a typewriter-are arranged
the same way in almost every keyboard. Sometimes this common
arrangement is called QWERTY layout because the first six keys on
the top row of letters are Q,W,E,R,T, and Y.
A different one called DVORAK keyboard. This keyboard layout places
the most commonly used letters in the middle row of keys,
making them easier to reach.
鍵盤的一部份 看起來像打字機 在大部分的鍵盤中被安排的方法都一樣
這種方法叫做QWERTY 因為前六個鍵在字母的首列是Q,W,E,R,T,Y
另一種不同的安排方法叫做DVORAK 這種方法把最常用到的字母放在鍵列的中間

Tab

The Tab Key moves you to predefined tab stops in many application
programs.In dialog boxes, you can press Tab to move from one option or field
to another.

Caps Lock

this key lets you "lock" the alphabet keys or the keys that produce
punctuation or special characters
鎖住字母鍵或標點符號或特別字元鍵

Backspace

this key enables you to erase characters you have just typed.
去除打的字元

Enter

lets you finalize data entry in many types of application programs.
You can also use Enter to choose commands and options in many
programs and at various places in an operating system's
interface.
在各式應用程式中結束資料輸入 也可用來在程式中選擇指令或選項

The Modifier Keys

They are used to modify the input of other keys.
修改其他鍵的輸入

Shift

when pressed in conjunction with an alphanumeric key, Shift forces
the computer to output a capital letter or symbol.
also acts as a modifier key on some programs.
當和一個字母鍵一同按時 Shift使電腦輸出一個大寫字母或符號
也在某些程式當作修正鍵

Ctrl

(label with an abbreviation of the word control)produces different
results depending on the program you are using.
control的簡寫 根據你所使用的程式而產生不同的效果

Alt

(called the Alternate Key)operates like the Ctrl key, except that it
produces a different set of results.
Alternate的簡寫 像Ctrl 除了它產生另一套不同的效果

Command

the command key(sometimes called the Apple key)functions like the
IBM-compatible PC's Alt key in many programs.
Depending on the computer's age, this key may be labeled with a symbol
that resembles a four-leaf clover, a picture of an apple or both.
有時叫做蘋果鍵 在很多程式作用像Alt 根據電腦的年齡
這個鍵可能用四片葉或蘋果的圖形或兩者標示

Option or Alt/Option

this button lets you change quickly the function of other designed keys
on the keyboard.
快速的改變其他未設定鍵的功能

The Numeric Keypad

usually located on the right side of the keyboard, look like an adding machine,
with its ten digits and mathematical operators (+, -, *, and /).

Num Lock key

force the numeric keys to input numbers.
強使號碼鍵輸入號碼

The Function Keys

The function keys (F1, F2, and so on)are usually arranged in a row
along the top of the keyboard. They allow you to input commands without
typing long strings of characters or navigating menus or dialog boxes.
Each function key's purpose depends on the program you are using.
功能鍵 常被安排在沿著鍵盤頂的一列 使你輸入指令而不用打長字串
各個功能鍵的目的根據你所使用的程式

The Cursor-Movement Keys

let you move around the screen.
讓你在螢幕上移動

Arrow Keys

Each of these keys is labeled by an arrow pointing in a specific
direction. The arrow keys move the cursor up or down a single
line, or left or right one character space.
用箭頭標示 箭頭指向明確的方向 使游標移上移下一行 或一左一右一字元

Home/End

press Home to move the cursor to the beginning of a line, and End
to move to the end of a line.
Home 使游標到行的開始 End 使游標到行的結束

Page Up/Page Down

sometimes abbreviated as PgUp and PgDn. let you "flip" through a
document, screen by screen, like turning the pages of a book.
縮寫為PgUp PgDn 讓你瀏覽文件 一幕接著一幕 像翻書一樣

Insert

be used to switch a program from "insert mode"(where text is
inserted into the document at the cursor) to "overtype mode"
(where new text is typed over existing text), and vice versa.
用來切換程式從 插入模式 到 覆蓋模式 反之亦然

Delete

used to delete characters from a document.Delete erases characters
to the right of the cursor, and Backspace erases characters
to the left of the cursor.
用來刪除字元 Delete從游標的右邊開始刪除 Backspace從游標的左邊開始

Esc

used to "back up"one level in a multilevel environment.
在多層環境中用來回到上一層

Print Screen

capture whatever is shown on the screen as an image.
捕捉任何顯現在螢幕上的東西為圖片

Scroll Lock

controls the functions of the cursor movement keys.
控制游標移動鍵的功能

Pause

stop a command in progress
停止一個在進行中的指令

Start

(sometimes called the Windows logo key),open the start menu in the
Windows 95,98,2000,and NT operating system on most computers.
有時叫做Windows Logo鍵 在視窗95.98.2000.NT等作業系統打開開始功能表

Shortcut

features an image of a menu, opens an on-screen shortcut menu in
Windows-based application programs.
以選單的圖樣為特徵 在視窗基礎應用程式中打開一個在螢幕上的捷徑選單

Ergonomic Keyboards

Ergonomically correct keyboards are designed to help the user's
hands stay positioned correctly, reducing bending and strain.
人體工學修正的鍵盤被設計來幫助使用者的手放置正確 減少彎曲及扭傷

The Pointer

an on-screen object, usually an arrow, that is used to select
text;access  menus;and interact with programs, files, or data that
appear on the screen.
一個在螢幕上的物件 常常是箭頭樣 用來選文字 進入表單 與程式及檔案互動
或是顯現在螢幕上的資料

Clicking

move the pointer to the item on the screen and to press and release
the mouse button once.
移動游標到螢幕上的物品然後黯然後釋放滑鼠按鈕一次

Double-clicking

to point to it with the mouse pointer and then press and release the mouse
button twice in rapid succession.
迅速連續的按及釋放兩次

Dragging

position the mouse pointer over the item, press the mouse button,
and hold it down as you move the mouse.
把滑鼠游標放在物品上按下滑鼠按鈕然後當你移動滑鼠時按著

The Trackball

a pointing device that works like an upside-down mouse.
一個游標設備看起來像是上下顛倒的滑鼠

The Trackpad

(also called a touchpad) a stationary pointing device that many people
find less tiring to use than a mouse or trackball.
也叫做touchpad 一個固定的游標設備

Pointers in the Keyboard

a small joystick positioned near the middle of the keyboard, typically
between the G and H keys.
two buttons that perform the same function as mouse buttons are
just beneath the spacebar.
many manufacturers refer to it as an integrated pointing device. on
the IBM ThickPad line of notebook computers, the
pointing device is called the TrackPoint.
一個在鍵盤上位於G與H間的小搖桿 兩個和滑鼠有相同功能的鍵在空白鍵旁
很多製造商把它視為植入式的游標設備IBM的ThinkPad系列把它叫做TrackPoint
