...again it's one of those utterly speechless moments when you find out
something so unbelievably exhilaraing and astounding that you can hardly pick
the right words to put every bit of jumpy emotion going on inyour brain into
precise and coherent language...
Mariah Carey once again took everybody by surprise as her latest effort,
Heartbreaker,claimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.
(!!!!!!!!!!!) To begin with,this event alone put her even further near the
all-time record keeper for the most #1 singles in the Billboard history,the
Beatles(20) and Elvis Presley(18),since this is already her 14th in her
relatively short career.At the same time,Mariah again distances herself from
competitors of her side of artists,as both Madonna and Whitney Houston only
managed to squeeze in 11 #1 singles in their span of showbiz life.
To set aside the "number" of #1 singles,Mariah also ties the record for hav-
ing the most "weeks" on the slot with the legendary Beatles,with a total of
59 weeks,again surpassing that of Madonna (28) and Whitney (31).If Heart-
breaker hangs on to the position next week,as is almost a certain thing,the
girl who hasn't been in the business for a decade will re-write this record.
And Mariah also completed her string of #1 singles in each one of her 10-year
career,meaning that she had at least one #1 single every year since her debut
in 1990,a record that's only been achieved by Paul Whitman back in the 20's.
Ahhh...there's just so much to say about this incredible feast of Mariah,I
can hardly stop myself.And you can't even begin to imagine how crazily happy
I was when I learned that the talents and hard work of my favorite artist has
finally been recognized.In the past few years,more and more critics started
to attacking Mariah and radio stations in the U.S. became less and less warm
toward Mariah's music,resulting in her dwindling popularity,which can be de-
tected in her declining record sales and her growing difficulty to reach the
#1 seat.But somehow all of Mariah's loyal fans still strongly believe in her
streaming strength at composing and performing and continued to demonstrate
their support all these times.As for myself,seeing that such a gem going un-
noticed in the music circle for such a long period of time is simply depre-
ssing and disappointing.At last,as Mariah put put her new work,Heartbreaker,
with that never-ceasing insistence on perfection after half a year,she got
the public acknowledgement that she deserves.After all,selling more than
271,000 copies of a CDsingle isn't what you might call a everyday occurrence.
And finding that astonishing figure under Mariah's name is all the more mean-
ingful and comforting.
Well,I know that not many of you guys are genuinely interested in Mariah's
music,so maybe I shouldn't drag so long about it...But this is truly a nerve-
exploding and spirit-refreshing experience for me,as well as unquestionably
the best birthday gift I received this year(!),so I'd like to share it with
you.Lots of thanks to Andere,Hahahaha,Libraman,Jasonhu,Yellowen,and all the
others who accompanied me through the days and fought for Mariah by my side.
I'm proud of each one of us and I believe so is Mariah!!!
