British composer Malcolm Arnold died on September 23. For those who love 20th Century classical music as well as classic British film, this is a significant loss. Arnold worked twice for director David Lean, composing the scores for Hobson's Choice and Bridge of the River Kwai. For Carol Reed, Arnold scored Trapeze and The Key. In a lighter vein, Arnold composed the scores for the "St. Trinian's" series - rowdy comedies about a private girls school with some very naughty students. Arnold retired from composing for films at the end of the Sixties in order to concentrate on his more serious composing as well as conducting chores with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Arnold won the Academy Award for his music for Bridge on the River Kwai, and was knighted in 1993. -- Eagles fly alone and sparrows fly in flocks. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.116.201.99 ※ 編輯: arnoldbax 來自: 140.116.201.99 (09/28 14:19)
