愛德蒙‧盧布拉的音樂可以追溯到童年時期聆聽母親在教堂合唱團演唱的經驗。
出身於北安普敦（Northampton）的工人階級家族。
早年學習鋼琴與音樂理論，而且幸運的有一個經營樂器行的叔叔，
這都給他機會可以廣泛的接觸音樂。
慢慢的他的音樂天分將他帶離工人階級的家庭。
他成為Cyril Scott的作曲私淑學生，並且跟隨霍爾斯特（Gustav Holst）
在Reading大學學習。
1921年，他贏得皇家音樂院公開徵選獎學金。
他繼續跟隨霍爾斯特，並偶而接受佛漢威廉士（Vaughan Williams）、
對位法名師R.O. Morris的指導。
Morris對盧布拉著重對位法的寫作風格影響甚深。

盧布拉的音樂特色可以從他十一首交響曲中窺見。
除了劇場音樂之外，他是一個多產並且多面的作曲家。
他對於神秘學與宗教很有興趣，前者可能是受到他的恩師霍爾斯特的影響。
1948，他信奉天主教，並且寫作大量的合唱作品。
這些作品試圖融合亞洲佛教與歐洲天主教的種種元素。

1962年的歌曲集『玉山』（The Jade Mountain），
歌詞取自於Witter Bynner翻譯的唐詩。
選用豎琴做伴奏或許是來自於第二首詩名。

01. A Night Thought on Terrace Tower

Far through the night a harp is singing
With a sadness of wind an rain in the strings.
There’s a solitary lantern, a bugle call
And beyond Terrace Tower down goes the moon.
