Doctors Denounce Beagle Rabies Experiments | 醫生譴責米格魯狂犬病毒實驗

專家聲明**美國責任醫師協會** 8月23日，2013年。


Statement of Kenneth Litwak, D.V.M., Ph.D., Associate Director of Laboratory
Medicine, responding to hearing that will take place Aug. 26:

肯尼‧李特瓦克醫師，博士獸醫師，實驗醫學中心副主任
對即將在八月二十六日所舉辦的「國內狂犬病防疫措施座談會」，發表了以下聲明:

“The experiments proposed by the Taiwanese Council of Agriculture, to test
the infectivity of the first rabies virus to be found on the island in
several decades are useless and cruel. The Council of Agriculture’s proposal
to allow rabid ferret-badgers to bite beagle puppies will not shed new light
on the infectivity of the virus. In fact, it is already well-known that
rabies can infect all warm-blooded animals regardless of viral variant.

台灣農委會為了測試鼬獾狂犬病毒感染力所提出的動物實驗，不但無意義而且殘忍。台灣
農委會計畫用鼬獾狂犬病毒感染米格魯來做實驗，並不會真的對防疫有所幫助。事實上，
無論哪一種狂犬病病株，都有能力感染溫血動物。

“The most important issue in Taiwan is not to determine whether this strain
of rabies virus can be passed from ferret badgers to dogs – that is a
certainty. What is more important is to determine whether current rabies
vaccines are also protective against this strain of the virus. Virus
neutralization assays can address this issue quickly and without killing any
animals.

台灣當前最重要的，並非決定到底這株鼬獾狂犬病毒有沒有能力感染狗。因為，答案是肯
定的。最重要的是決定到底目前的狂犬疫苗，是不是也能抗此株病毒，為動物提供保護力
。其實不需要犧牲任何動物，而是執行病毒中和試驗(virus neutralization assays)，
就可以回答這個問題。

“Vaccination remains a highly effective method of controlling rabies in
domestic animals. Further, oral vaccination of wildlife has been successfully
done for over 30 years in Europe and 20 years in the United States.

對於寵物，狂犬疫苗是高度有效的防疫方法。而對於野生動物，口服疫苗在歐洲用了超過
30年，在美國也已經超過20年。

“The Taiwanese government should be focusing on vaccination efforts in both
their domestic animals and wildlife to stem this outbreak, instead of wasting
valuable time, effort, and money on experiments that will only continue to
prove what has already been demonstrated many times.”

為了防止家中寵物和野生動物被感染而擴大疫情，台灣政府應該專注在疫苗的效力上。不
是花費時間、精力和金錢，在已經被做過多次的實驗上。
