Demonstrators have gathered in Taiwan's capital for a second day to demand
the resignation of President Chen Shui-bian over corruption allegations.

  抗議者已經在台灣的首都聚集了第二天，而他們是因為其主張陳水扁貪腐
而要求其辭職。

Rain fell throughout the day, dashing protesters' hopes that thousands would
turn up again - 90,000 took to the city streets on Saturday.

  整天都在下雨，也衝擊了讓這上千人的希望 ---- 禮拜六有九萬個人上

"Ah-Bian, step down!", they shouted making the thumbs-down sign and wearing
their red outfits signifying anger.

  「阿扁，下台！」他們大聲呼喊並且比著拇指向下的手勢，並且穿著表
示她們意味著怒火的紅色服裝。

Mr Chen's popularity has plummeted amid scandals involving relatives and
aides.

  陳先生的支持率在這些牽涉到其親戚以及其助理們的醜聞中，嚴重下滑。

In one case, his son-in-law is facing charges - which he denies - of insider
trading on the stock market.

  其一例便是，他的女婿正面對著一項指控，他的女婿是否認的，那便是

Refusing to quit

Abound 3,000 demonstrators braved the cold and rain overnight in Taipei to
keep up the sit-in protest.

  三千個抗議者勇敢的對抗著台北濕冷的天氣，而持續著靜坐抗議。

On Saturday, protest leader Shih Ming-teh, a former Chen ally, hailed event
as an historic moment and vowed that there would be no let up in the pressure
on the president:

  禮拜六，抗議的領導者施明德，他過去是陳水扁的戰友，將此件事當成
一個歷史性的時刻，並且在對總統施壓上不會停止。


"What the country really needs is a leader who can do something good for the
people rather than one who hides in the presidential office despite so many
corruption cases," Mr Shih said.

  施先生說：：「一個國家需要一個能夠為人民做事，而非在這麼多弊案
之後，仍然躲在總統府裡面的總統。」

"The people of Taiwan have the power to ask Chen to step down. We will not
stop this protest until he does," he added.

  他補充：「台灣人民有要求陳水扁下台的權力。我們不會在他做出這件
事之前退縮。」

Mr Chen was elected as Taiwan's first non-Kuomintang president in 2000 and
was re-elected in the disputed election of 2004.

  陳先生在2000年上台，並且是第一個非國民黨籍的台灣總統，並且在2004
年的競爭性選舉鐘取得勝利。

Mr Chen, whose term of office is due to run until 2008, is refusing to
resign, saying that the rallies are simply part of opposition attempts to
bring him down.

  陳先生的任期會在 2008 年到期，他拒絕辭職，說這樣的動員純粹就是
反對黨要拉他下台罷了。

Last month he survived an unprecedented parliamentary attempt by the
opposition Kuomintang to oust him.

  上個月他在國民黨所主導，史無前例的國會罷免中活了下來。

The crisis began in May, when Mr Chen's son-in-law, Chao Chien-min, was
detained on suspicion of insider trading.

  他的危機起源於他的女婿趙建銘，在五月接受關於內線交易的調查。

Mr Chen's wife was also accused of questionable dealings.

  陳先生的太太也被指控有些有問題的交易。

The president has apologised for the actions of his son-in-law.

  總統已經為他的女婿的行為做出道歉。
