A 2-hour retention enema containing propylthiouracil 400 milligrams,
administered every 6 hours for 6 doses, was successful in treating a
49-year-old women with thyroid storm. Eight 50 milligram tablets
(400 milligrams) of propylthiouracil were dissolved in 60 milliliters
of Fleet's(R) mineral oil for the first dose, and the same amount in
60 milliliters of Fleet's(R) phospho soda for the next 5 doses
(Walter & Bartle, 1990).
