把 out 當作 adverb, 此處的意義就相當明晰易懂了，
因為 OED online grind v.1 有以下的條目

3. fig.  a. To afflict, to torment; physically and mentally. Also
absol. Now only U.S., to annoy, vex.

: 意思是Achilles死心了嗎？
: 可是如果最後一句的意思是他渴望戰爭爆發、希臘人戰敗的話，
: 這種心境又和死心不搭。

顯然這當然指的是 Achilles 對於他的 injured merit or underestimated honor

感到非常的痛心。因為，可想而知，他是拋棄了他作為王位繼承人的良田美眷才

來到特洛依城，打一場讓他聲名永垂不朽的大戰役。 Agamemnon 執意襲奪 Chryseis

這種宗主權的宣示等於是否定 Achilles 作為希臘第一戰士對於至高無上名望的追求。

兩方面都顯得十分盲目。


由此可以想見， Achilles 此時已經將希臘聯軍的損兵折將視若無睹，眼中只有自己的

榮譽與名聲。當然他會學到教訓。

Iliad 一直是我覺得在今天備受輕視的史詩。因為在其中所涉及的議題，與今天實在

一脈相連：諸如反戰、文明與反文明、甚至是管理學。這些處處要指向人類群體與組織的

起源，這很可能也是 Homer 在創作史詩時所關注的。
