標題Re: [請益] William Blake's "Proverbs of Hell"
時間Wed Nov 10 01:13:52 2010
Just to put this quote into context:
Blake's Proverbs of Hell, from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, is a series of
axioms purposely designed to look like those spouted out by staunch religious
types, but they carry an almost completely different message.
In Blake's view, religion, or institutionalized religion, suffocates the
creativity and passion of the human soul. Instead of blindly following doctrine
and dogma, we should act along with our passions and sparks of inspiration.
This is the main point of The Marriage; when reformulated into terms of
innocence (imposed on people by religion and society) and experience (the
original, wondrous state of the human existence), the same viewpoint can be
seen in his major poetic work, Songs of Innocence and Experience. He
intentionally inverts what we usually consider the binary oppositions of
heaven/hell and innocence/experience to surprising effects.
Once again, Blake takes issue with
institutionalized religion, not religion
itself. So I hope nobody says he's the devil or something. XD
※ 引述《darksign (離雲)》之銘言:
: I've encountered this quote in a heated debate amongst my friends, and I would
: like to see everyone's take on this very interesting subject. :)
: The quote goes like this:
: No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings.
: My interpretation is that, one can be satisfied with the height he has reached,
: and boast about, so long as he has achieved his feats through his own power and
: hard work. And one that did not, is ultimately undeserving to do so.
: Now my friend's perspective, which I disagree, is relatively simple: The sky's
: the limit. As long as you try, there is no height that you cannot reach.
: Alright guys, any input would be greatly appreciated, let's hear 'em! :D
