讀到此詩一時有些感觸
試譯如下:
「倘若我得知，在不經意的狀況下」

倘若我得知，在不經意的狀況下，
得知你已走了，永遠地走了——
從報紙背面看來的消息，話說呀，
還要感謝讀報的地鐵鄰座乘客，
於是如此這般在這條街以及
那條路的轉角(報紙如此加油添醋)
一位行色匆匆的男子，恰好是你，
在今天正午時分恰好一命嗚呼，
我不宜放聲大哭——我其實哭不
出聲，也不想在此處扼腕悲痛——
我想我只會望著月台燈火晃眼飄忽
實則更在意我映在窗上的面容；
不然就是抬眼張望更留心搜尋
哪邊有皮衣店和該去做什麼髮型。

I should not cry aloud--I could not cry
Aloud, or wring my hands in such a place--
I should but watch the station lights rush by
With a more careful interest on my face;
Or raise my eyes and read with greater care
Where to store furs and how to treat the hair.
