after a long void of losing touch
you spot me one day
in front of a beautiful sunset

say hi sit down and the formalities begin
like catching a marble rolling too fast
we rush through words more quickly than wisely
courses homework future plans
high school life and old school friends
dating status past romance
the words run out so fast

slowly circling around that buried hope
we both partook of the same thing
separately at different times do you
do you remember
when we did nothing together
for long periods of time do you
remember when we were caught holding hands
on the bus
do you remember the instant before we were caught
when our hands melted into one
your head on my shoulder
my head on your head
eyelids drooping in the sunlight
and we found o sweet bliss

in the silence between courtesies
we gaze out at the bleeding sky
and i wish you could read my mind
