the days go by so fast
that sometimes even i can't
keep up
romances blossom and fade (or not)
moods swing up and down
and back up again
what seems like a long journey
suddenly has already ended
books get read (or not)
words are said and immediately forgotten
and the trail of our lives grows longer and longer
and when i meet someone i seldom see
the person they have in mind
is a vaguely recognizable stranger
like starlight from a self of my past
this is the longest story of all
yet shorter than any other
