Traditionally Taipei basketball is famous for its successful three-point
shots. In the game against Brazilian team "Americana" Taipei basketball
players did not invent anything new and used their traditional methods.
During the whole match Taipei players possessed the initiative. The only
disappointment for Taipei team was the storm break of Brazilians in the
middle of the second quarter. The Brazilians could cut down the score up to
10 points. However, they could not keep leading position in the game
and had to struggle every ball till the last minute of the game.
This evening the fortune was on the side of "Cathay Life" team. Brazilian
players could not control their nerves and, as a result, they missed balls
and failed in the starting game of the FIBA World League.
The best players of the opening day were announced the Brazilian player Soeli
Zakrzeski and the Taipei player Pi-Feang Chao.
After the game:
Paulo Bassul, "Unimed" head coach: "We should give both teams their due, the
girls fought till the last second of the game. Both teams made a lot of
mistakes."
Ling-Yao Hung, "Cathay Life Insurance" head coach: "I truly believe, if
Brazilian team had arrived a day earlier, most probably they would have won."
