我是目前還在申請博班的學生 目前也還丟不到10篇的聯絡信
但是我寫到現在 有回音的很少 有好的回音的更少
有好的回音也不一定代表你能上
不過我寫到現在寫出一個心得 跟大家分享
不保證我的方法是對的 畢竟我也還在申請 還不知道自己能去哪一間
我拿一篇我認為我目前得到最好回音的一個連絡信當作例子好了
人名/program名稱等等我都去掉

I am very interested in your finding on the Snail 1 induce MT1/2-MMP BM transmigration. I also have some questions about your work in my mind. I would also like to learn the research possibilities in your group and I am an applicant to the xxxxx program for the fall, 2011.

I am also currently working with MCF-7 cells and its migration ability. I was surprised that you use MCF-7 on the CAM model because I know MCF7 is a cell line which has very little very migratory ability and invasiveness. I had a question on your PNAS (2009), the figure 2 shown that once the MCF7 overexpress MT1/2 MMP9, the MCF7 cells gained migratory ability even “it was not overexpressing Snail”. As I know, MCF7 cells were very “epithelial” and tend to cluster together with high cell/cell
interaction. So, I wonder if an epithelial cancer cell can still gain BM transmigration ability even it is have not undergone cadherin switch and become “mesenchymal”? I think your work changed my way to look on EMT because it seems like mesenchymal feature, for example, vimentin/N-cadherin/fibronectin is not necessary for invasiveness.
基本上 我一開始不提我的基本資料
我直接找數篇他過去論文 很仔細的看完後
我直接把他論文和我目前的研究連接起來 講說有什麼相通的地方
然後我提出一個論文discussion沒有提 但是很直得用來discuss的東西
或是我過去做實驗 看到的結果中和這篇論文中的異同之處

基本上就是你要問一個問題 剛剛好問到這個實驗沒有問到 但是因該要問的問題
如果教授好 或是他也絕得有興趣 就會回你 這樣你就可以慢慢跟他discuss科學研究
其實我認為到這一步就很夠了
就算你沒上 你至少學到新的知識 和其他資深學者一起分享想法
也不算是打水飄

這種教授好不好找 很難找 基本上要找那種作的題目跟你現在有很大相似性
或至少在大方向大目標上類似
就好像 想像一下你參加一個研討會 要怎麼去挑一篇poster讀完
讀完後能夠去和作者問一個很criticle的問題 讓對方願意和你討論下去

找到這種教授後看論文 或是用論文順藤摸瓜找教授
例如我的專長是epithelial mesenchymal transition/cancer metastasis
我就直接去找相關的論文 看到和我目前做的東西類似 有感觸的論文
再回頭找教授 聯絡
成功率高不高 不高
但我認為直得一試
重點是不要丟罐頭信  我一開始丟的罐頭信幾乎都沒有回信
就算有回信也只說 你上了以後再來找我
另外提你過去有什麼偉大成就或對什麼有興趣也沒有用
教授只會說 請你申請上再來找我
所以重點在連絡信中問到critical question讓教授願意和你對話下去
才可能會有效果

→ oplz:is not strong enough though.  It helps more if you have
→ oplz:questions in big pictures but not details.
推 oplz:it also helps by stating who you are in the beginning -

這一點我倒是沒有注意到 下次要小心  謝謝拉
推 twowugs:第一段順序感覺就反了，第一句就應該表明身分
→ twowugs:而且即使是教授，自己寫的paper過了一陣子也會忘記細節的
→ twowugs:這樣子問對方未必真的能想到什麼回你，或者是有耐心看完
