Dear Advising Colleagues,
I wanted to make you aware of a change in score reporting procedures for the
GRE Revised General Test that has just taken effect. On July 1, 2013, the GRE
Program transitioned to paperless score reporting for test takers, which we
believe will provide better service to test takers.
What’s not changing?
Just as before, students can view their official scores through their My GRE
Account by clicking on “View Scores and Score Recipients.”There’s no
change in this, and test takers will continue to be able to see their scores
online without charge.
In addition, the timing for accessing GRE scores online is not changing.
1. For test takers who took the computer-based test, scores are available in
the View Scores Online service approximately 10–15 days after their test
date.
2. For test takers who took the paper-based test, scores are available in the
View Scores Online service approximately four weeks after their test date.
What is changing?
Starting July 1, 2013, ETS will no longer be sending copies of score reports
through the mail to test takers. Test takers who wish to have a personal
printed copy of their official Examinee Score Report will be able to print
the report themselves. The My GRE Account now includes an on-demand,
print-friendly functionality that makes it easy to print an official Examinee
Score Report for free as soon as the scores are available in their account.
The Examinee Score Report will reflect the test taker’s GRE testing history
and contains the same data elements as the previously printed score report
copies.
Can these scores be sent to universities?
No, they can’t. Just as in the past, for security reasons students cannot
send their own copies of score reports to institutions. Score reports printed
from the My GRE Account are not substitutes for the official Graduate
Institution Score Reports sent directly from ETS to Designated Institutions
at the test taker’s request. The official Graduate Institution Score Reports
will continue to be sent in a secure fashion to institutions in their
preferred format (paper, electronic or CD). The test taker’s Designated
Institutions will receive these score reports when a test taker indicates --
at either the test center or by ordering Additional Score Reports after test
day --that he or she would like particular GRE scores sent to these schools.
Remember that with the ScoreSelect option, whether test takers take a GRE
test once or more than once, they send only the scores they want institutions
to see.
Why is the GRE Program doing this?
Electronic official GRE score reporting is much faster than waiting to
receive a paper report in the mail. Students can view their official Examinee
Score Report and, if desired, print a personal copy, at any point during the
5 years that their GRE scores are valid. It’s faster and easier than sending
scores through the mail.
Let me know if you have any questions about this. We’re here to help!
Best regards,
Eileen
