這篇是利用寒假時間與我們紐約大學遊戲設計研究所*上的主任以及教授們訪談的結果及 對話記錄。希望能夠對台灣想要申請遊戲設計相關的申請者有所幫助。 (* New York University Game Design MFA:http://gamecenter.nyu.edu/) 1) What is the most weakness / drawbacks you see for Taiwanese applicants? 你覺得對於台灣的申請者而言,最常見的缺點是什麼? Language proficiency is the most important hurdle to get over. The Game Center MFA is very focused on design process, which involves a lot of communication - articulating your vision, discussing ideas with collaborators, organizing work flow within a group, presenting your work, etc. Making sure you have the language skills needed to communicate effectively is top priority. 英文的表達通常是最需要克服的障礙。紐約大學遊戲設計藝術碩士是非常專注在設 計的過程,包含了許多溝通例如:需要清楚表達你的遠見、與夥伴討論想法、在團隊中規 劃、工作流程、表達你的作品等等。最重要的是確保你有足夠的語言能力去做有效的溝通 。 2) What is the most critical elements to be a successful applicants? 什麼是申請成功最關鍵的要素? A portfolio of strong work and a personal statement that shows that you have a clear vision for how you want to contribute to the world of games. 一個好的"作品集"以及"個人陳述"能表達你很清楚知道自己要如何把遊戲貢獻給這個世 界。 3) Is a Game-Related experience important or a must to be consider for the admission? 請問具備遊戲相關經驗對於申請是重要的或是必須的嗎? No. It can be very useful, but it isn't a requirement. We want to have a variety of students with different backgrounds, interests, and levels of game-making experience. What is required is that you have a passion for games, talent, and a desire to create original, high-quality work. 不是的。有相關經驗固然很有幫助,但不是必要的。我們想要有來自不同背景的學生, 不同的興趣,以及不同程度的遊戲制作經驗。 真正必要的是你對遊戲的熱情、天份、和 那股想要創造出原創、高品質作品的欲望。 4) What type of background of applicants does NYU Game Center's looking for? 請問紐約大學遊戲設計所在找怎樣背景的申請者呢? Games are highly inter-disciplinary. We are looking for talented students with different skills and areas of focus: programming, visual design, storytelling, system design, animation, music composition and audio design, etc. Our students come from many different backgrounds from computer science and boardgame design to economics and political activism! 遊戲是相當跨領域的學科。我們在尋找有著各種不同技能、來自不同領域且有天賦 的學生。像是程式、視覺設計、故事劇本、系統設計、動畫、音樂與音效設計等等不同的 領域。我們的學生來自許多不同的背景,從資工、桌遊設計、到經濟學和政治行動主義都 有。 5) Any Advices for Taiwanese applicants? 請問您有任何建議給台灣的申請者嗎? Make games! Make small, finished, playable games by yourself or collaborating with other people. Don't wait, figure out how you can create games using the skills and tools you have currently have access to. The best way to learn is by doing! 做遊戲!自己動手或是合作去做小型、完整、可玩的遊戲。不要再等了,想辦法自 己如何用現有的技能和工具去做遊戲。最好的學習方式就是開始動手去做!
