海峽時報 (新加坡) Kuek Lin 2006-09-16 Everything's sweet with Sweety THEY may be only 18 and look dewy fresh, but don't mistake the members of the popular Taiwanese girly-pop duo Sweety to be gauche young things. Esther Liu and Joanne Tseng - more affectionately known to their fans as Yen Yen and Qiao Qiao respectively - are seasoned pros, having been in the entertainment circle for four years already. The former was discovered by a producer while she was visiting a mutual friend, host-singer Makiyo, at a TV studio; the latter was introduced to the same producer after she won a singing contest. Here on a four-day trip to promote their third and latest album, Sweet Talk, the two were totally at ease, chatting easily at the press conference held at the SPH News Centre on Thursday. Such is their level of professionalism: They were impeccably turned out as teeny-bopper idols, both dressed in colour-coordinated wardrobe and make-up. Still, occasionally, their brash youthfulness showed through. Take Liu's zealous declaration: 'We have always thought that there will be a miraculous physical change when we turned 18, like having increased boob size and height overnight.' But as the petite teenagers found out, the changes were not so drastic - yet. When asked if the limelight and the paparazzi's attention were giving them any grief, they looked at each other knowingly and smiled. Said Tseng without missing a beat: 'We are still normal kids, it is just that the public sees us differently.' Nonetheless, they say they feel blessed to have each other. Indeed, they are more than just partners. 'She is my best friend and confidante,' said Liu. Sweety's autograph session will be held at Junction 8 today at 6.30pm. Their album, Sweet Talk, is in stores.
