[問題] orthogonal to sth?

有個片語中文不知道該如何表達

First, the androgyny perspective regards an overall senses of same-gender
typicality as "orthogonal to" an overall sense of other-gender typicality.

For reasons discussed by Egan and Perry(2001), it is unlikely that two
summary senses of same- and other-gender typicality are orthogonal dimensions;
it is likely that they function as opposite ends of a single continuum.
