我想，在大致不變動文意的前提下，原文也許可以寫成這樣：
The only thing that makes the calling of a popular vote a unique democratic
instituion is its appearance.
我不知道這篇文章的原 PO 是受何人之託翻譯這篇文章的。但是以這篇文章的屬性而
言，我想委託人若不是法律、政治方面的學者或學生，就是涉入政治事務的人士。但
不論委託人究竟是什麼樣的身份，我真的要很慎重地告訴原 PO ，這絕不是一篇可以
隨便翻譯的文章。
台灣的公投制度才剛起步，從其他國家的經驗中學習對我們極為重要。這篇文章翻譯
品質的好壞所會影響到的，可能不僅僅是委託人對原 PO 的評價而已，萬一翻譯出了
什麼問題，台灣的未來也許要為此付出代價。請務必慎重！
