我第一次推文的確是用語感做答,
但是第二次推文裡面說用the holidays表示holiday這段時間的這個用法我有查字典喔
只是我懶得寫長篇大論的說明...
在OED線上版詞條中(OED可能要從學校購買的資料庫中連線喔)
the, particle (conj., adv.), rel. pron. 第二條
2. Relative particle. a. Appended to adverbs and adverbial expressions of
time, place, etc., to make them relative or conjunctive.
b. Hence as a temporal adverb : When.
所以有the在holidays前表示 when holiday
而在朗文當代高級辭典中
on的用法第十一項
11、(before a noun or the)in a state or porcess of
用在名詞或the之前)在...情況下,在...過程中
也就是說,使用on holiday(on + 名詞)可以直接表示在假期期間
在holiday的詞條中第二條
2、on holiday/ on one's holidays:having a holiday, esp. over a prriod of time
一樣說明了使用on holiday不加the可以直接表示在"假期中"
朗文字典中,
during的詞條
1、all through (a length of time)
在...的期間
例句: We went swimming every day during the summer.
2、at some moment in(a length of time)
在...的時候
例句: He died during the night.
也就是說, during後面必須加"一段時間"
而所有during的例句中都是 during "the" XXX
原因就在於一開始從oxford English dictionary online中引用的說明
the可以當作when使用
所以有the的時候才可使用during
而 on 加名詞可以直接表示在...的過程中
所以可以不加the,也可以放所有格
