A-Rod side-splitter
Won't hit back at Colon after plunking
BY SAM BORDEN
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Alex Rodriguez gets plunked by Bartolo Colon, perhaps the pitcher's payback
for A-Rod's three-homer game earlier this year.
ANAHEIM - Alex Rodriguez has dominated Bartolo Colon in the past, but A-Rod
doesn't think the fastball he took in the side last night was related to that.
Although he entered the game with a .442 average and seven home runs in 43
previous at-bats against Colon, Rodriguez wouldn't bite when asked if he
thought there was intent behind the righthander's second-inning fastball that
brought the Yanks' third baseman to his knees.
"Absolutely not," A-Rod said. "I think Bartolo is a class act. He's a great
guy and a professional."
Colon had decent success against A-Rod last night anyway. He whiffed him on
three pitches in the first inning, struck him out again in the fourth and
induced a 5-4-3 double play to end the seventh.
Rodriguez crumpled after getting hit by the 89 mph pitch, falling to his
knees in obvious agony. He stayed down for a few moments but stayed in the
game after a quick chat with a team trainer.
