Official: Fiorentina's Da Costa To Sampdoria
Fiorentina have officially sent Portuguese defender Manual Da Costa on loan
to the Blucerchiati of Sampdoria.
Sampdoria have been searching the market for the right defender to add to
their squad ahead of the rest of the season, after a defensive crisis had
left them short staffed and new arrival Andrea Raggi picked up an injury.
As a result Samp went back into the market and they have officially landed
one of the most sought after defenders available, in a loan deal from the
Florence club.
Manuel Da Costa had been unsettled at the Viola for some time, due to
problems regarding his relationship with coach Cesare Prandelli.
News from England recently linked the defender to Sunderland and Chelsea, but
Torino and Juventus had also made bids, and seemed close to landing the
player before Sampdoria swooped in to seal the deal. The player is expected
to join his new team mates as early as this afternoon.
The centre-back, who arrived in Italy from PSV Eindhoven in January, saw his
first start in September.
He has only made two other appearances for the Viola since then, leading to
friction between Da Costa and Fiorentina. This transfer saga has finally
ended just in time for the close of market next week
