RUI COSTA: 'I hope I can maintain my average mark'

  MILANELLO ? Manuel Rui Costa speaks about Milan, Porto and his condition in
today's press conference. About the gap between his 32 final passes and his lac
-k of goals, the Portuguese says: 'Who scores is usually best-remembered, but
my task is to provide crosses to inspire goals and if I consider this, I can on
-ly be happy with myself. I just hope I can be up to the same average final pas
-ses I made last season and I can also score some goals.'

  RUI COSTA : 'I won't wage war against anyone'

  MILANELLO - The arrival of new-signing Kaka at Milan could be seen as a furth 
-er increase of competition for places. Rui Costa is not worried about it, as
he confirms: 'We can play in the same position, it is true,but we have differen
-t qualities. The only thing we have in common is that in Brazil as in Portugal
the creator-in-chief is considered as an attacking midfielder. When you join It
-alian football, you must adapt to different tactics and the risk is to become
more versatile and lose your peculiarities. As far as I'm concerned, however,
I've never waged war against a team-mate and I won't begin now. We are a compac
-t team and we only fight on the pitch for the team's sake.'

  RUI COSTA: 'We can beat Porto'

  MILANELLO ? Rui Costa has been obviously asked about Milan's next opposition
Porto. 'They are a complete team and although they are not physically very stro
-ng, they have a good coach and can attack and defend very well. Early last sea
-son they did not convince anyone, then they made instant impact.Of course they
have weaknesses and we must discover them. Milan will have to be compact and mo
-ve a lot in the front line. I think this Milan side could win, if the whole te
-am works well.'

  Rui Costa then analyses the Portuguese football: 'At present there are only
three competitive teams: Sporting Lisboa, Porto and Benefica. It is a pity, Por
-tugal is a small country and football rivalry makes it even more divided.'
